Who We Are

The S.T.A.R. Chapter Foundation is a federally recognized 501(c)3 organization that has provided scholarships in support of higher education to deserving students within minority communities of Greater Cincinnati since 2010. The genesis of the foundation is owed to the men of the Beta Iota Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., who have faithfully served the Greater Cincinnati African American community since 1940.

The S.T.A.R. Chapter Foundation is governed by an executive board of men who are leaders within their various professions and dedicated to carrying out the foundation’s mission. S.T.A.R. is a descriptive acronym that reflects the character traits of the foundation’s leadership, as well as its members and scholarship recipients.

What We Do

With the support of donors, patrons, and friends, the STAR Chapter Foundation provides financial assistance in the form of scholarships for deserving students of color seeking to complete post-secondary and graduate degrees to accredited colleges and universities. Since its inception, the foundation has awarded over $200,000 to college-bound and graduate students from the Greater Cincinnati area, profoundly impacting the lives of individuals and families for over a decade.

ANNUAL CINCINNATI MARDI GRAS

In 2010, The STAR Chapter Foundation began proudly hosting the Annual Mardi Gras Celebration each February, during which we celebrate the selection of our Rising Star Scholars and “party with a purpose” to raise money for our future STARS. The event brings together over one thousand patrons from all over the country to participate in a week of activities and culminates in a Mardi Gras celebration on Saturday evening.

Annual Rising STARs Banquet

As the Rising STARs program continued to grow there was a clear opportunity for the members of The STAR Chapter Foundation to further celebrate the accomplishments of these young people. An opportunity to highlight what they had contributed through the program, to celebrate the accomplishment of completing their high school journey and to encourage them as pushed forward onto their next stage of life in college.

MEET THE RISING STARS – MICHAEL

Michael was the first $20,000 scholarship recipient in 2012 as he graduated from North College Hill High School and prepared to start at Morehouse College in Atlanta, GA where he would major in Finance. Michael exhibited the character, leadership, and classroom success that the scholarship committee looks for in every Rising STARs Scholar. Michael continued his success at Morehouse and graduated in 2016. He is now a Treasury Funding Associate for J.P. Morgan Chase in New York City. With all of his success, Michael still has fond memories of the scholarship program and those who invested in him.
