Application and Program Requirements

Applications to be considered for the Rising STARs program are available in October with interviews occurring in January of the new year. Once selected Rising STARs participate in community service, personal and professional development and faith-based activities from February to May. These activities are multi-purpose as they give the Rising STARs opportunities to expand their experience and network while also providing an environment for the scholarship committee to evaluate the scholar’s leadership ability and enthusiasm for service to others.

Rising STARs have participated with the annual Cincinnati Mardi Gras which is a primary fundraiser for the Rising STARs Scholarship program, they have been a part of the partnership with the Center for Closing the Health Gap and their annual Health Fair as well as supporting an annual community Easter event for children in the area.

Annual Rising STARs Banquet

As the Rising STARs program continued to grow there was a clear opportunity for the members of The STAR Chapter Foundation to further celebrate the accomplishments of these young people. An opportunity to highlight what they had contributed through the program, to celebrate the accomplishment of completing their high school journey and to encourage them as pushed forward onto their next stage of life in college. The banquet began as a dinner to host scholars and their families along with the scholarship committee. This has grown over the years into a formal celebration that includes dinner, a keynote speaker and presentation of the scholarship awards for that year’s class.  This event hosts scholars and their families but also welcomes community and corporate leaders who have a chance to join in the celebration and support of these immensely talented young men and women.

Ongoing Mentoring and Networking

Rising STARs scholars are provided an opportunity for informal mentoring and networking through the connections they make with members of The STAR Chapter Foundation. These members include executives at fortune 500 companies, successful entrepreneurs, leaders of non-profit organizations and community advocates. The expectation is an evolution of the mentoring and networking component that will create a more formal structure successfully pairing Rising STARs with a team of mentors who have experience in their field of interest. This team will include previous Rising STARs, a member of The STAR Chapter Foundation and a community leader who will work collectively to be a support system and resource for the scholar.
