Who We Are

The S.T.A.R. Chapter Foundation is a federally recognized 501(c)3 organization that has provided scholarships in support of higher education to deserving students within minority communities of Greater Cincinnati since 2010. The genesis of the foundation is owed to the men of the Beta Iota Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., who have faithfully served the Greater Cincinnati African American community since 1940. These men recognized the importance of using higher education as a tool to develop personal goals, lay a foundation for economic empowerment, and provide a greater sense of personal dignity for members of the Black community. They also understood the direct beneficial relationship between higher education and overall improvement in American society. Through their hard work and sacrifice, the S.T.A.R. Chapter Foundation was born.

The S.T.A.R. Chapter Foundation is governed by an executive board of men who are leaders within their various professions and dedicated to carrying out the foundation’s mission. S.T.A.R. is a descriptive acronym that reflects the character traits of the foundation’s leadership, as well as its members and scholarship recipients.

In order to do the work of a foundation, one must have a commitment to service. This is especially true when attempting to bring about beneficial large-scale change within Black and Brown communities against the staggering historical, and present-day headwinds of our society. The foundation’s leadership and its members possess the requisite commitment to service, as well as the necessary talent to achieve our stated goals. Our membership is comprised of over 100 college-educated men with post-secondary degrees and skill sets, spanning the entire spectrum of American academia and industry. Not only are we accountable to our scholarship recipients to provide much needed financial support – critically, we are also accountable to our donors, our friends and the Tri-State community. Finally, the foundation, its members and affiliates are ready to roll up our sleeves, and do the work needed to carry out S.T.A.R. Chapter’s vital mission within our local and regional community.
